Not dead (except on the inside). [May. 8th, 2008|01:06 pm]
[music |PIG - Pigmata]

It's been month's since I last posted in an attempt to lessen the distractions to my phd - the results have been um... variable at best. Anyhow I found this article and felt the need to share it teacher sues school because her students ask too many "subversive" questions.
Anyway I'm back off to work on something that has only suspect access to the truth.

Of memes and men... [Feb. 13th, 2008|01:11 pm]
While still on my lunchbreak... Might have had this conversation with people before but been thinking recently how memes really don't mimic the behaviour of genes all that well in my opinion.
It doesn't sound as cool but I reckon they really should be called memfections because they act more like diseases than genetic inheritance especially throwaway internet memes.

Who doesn't want to get "tight with christ" through the miracle of handcream? [Feb. 13th, 2008|12:53 pm]
[Current Location |XP8 - the art of revenge]
[mood | amused]

Felt compelled to break my lj silence to bring this to people's attention: a hilariously inappropriate cosmetics range from singapore, brings the catholocism WOW campaign to mind.
Works coming along in leaps and.. erm stumbles rather than bounds but tis the nature of the beast alas.
I'll see anyone who's going to wendyhouse there.

Not dead but nearly. [Jan. 9th, 2008|12:50 pm]
[mood |busy]

It's been a while since I could be arsed to post anything, mainly because nothing interesting has been happening to me at the moment. This is only likely to get worse til the end of october as well as considerably less socialising possibly to the point where I become eligible for hermit status but don't worry I'm not dead in a ditch I'm just finishing my thesis (the thing I've been putting off doing in favour of drinking for the last 2 years).
I'll see you in October when, touch wood, the drinks will be on me! (This does not constitute a binding contract nor moral obligation, all drinks shall be bought based on an independent assessment, drinks and/or offer of drinks are non-refundable and non-transferable).

Buy lightspeed briefs! [Dec. 11th, 2007|01:32 pm]
[mood | scared]

This is just so wrong - apparently beaming sound waves inside your cranium is less intrusive compared to a loudspeaker. I had a dream once where corporations had copyrighted the actual language included in their logos and adverts and scanned the brains of citizens so they could charge them royalties for using "their property" in everyday speak so you couldn't use words like word (copyrighted by Microsoft), inside (Intel) or future (orange) etc... It was probably inspired by the whole DC/Marvel we own the word superhero bollocks.
But anyway the future's here and they are using it to flog you shit and advertise crappy telly.
addendum: but then again why am I surprised?

Why can't we sleep forever? [Nov. 22nd, 2007|01:30 pm]
[Current Location |York Uni]
[mood | tired]
[music |I've been humming ice ice baby in my head all day]

short answer is, I wouldn't get anything done. So insomnia is reigning in David's world but hey more hours in the day to get the job done and it is getting steadily closer to the finish - 2 chapters almost complete, 1 started and the content for the others is rolling in and for once experiments are working (finally).
All I need know is inspiration on a new career path, a clue to where to move to next, some idea of how to move my stuff there and how I'm gonna get a place to stay in the 4 month period after my current lease is up and when my course ends - temporary uni accomodation over the summer seems easiest and cheapest but York are right arseholes about accomodation and will probably decide to fill all rooms with ducks and geese instead of renting them out.
Anyone going to the amalgamation festival in Leeds on the 7th and 8th dec? will see you there if so, if not then I probably won't.

Strangely reminscient of a simpsons episode (back when it was still good). [Nov. 14th, 2007|09:46 am]
[mood | amused]

God bless America!
In other news I've written 4,000 words of my thesis and am steadily panicking more and more about having less than a year to go, while partly pleased I can finally escape York I am also terrified as I can't delay the real world with more education much longer...

101 uses for miniature pigs... [Oct. 15th, 2007|02:27 pm]
[mood | angry]

Someone's bred a strain of tiny pigs and not a moment too soon! The world has been clamouring for smaller pigs since time immemorial, wars have been fought and great atrocities committed due to the lack of pigs which you could fit in a handbag like those horrid rat-dog-hybrid things. Now not everyone understands how to fully utilise tiny pigs to their full potential, though the primal, almost subconscious yearning to own one is undeniable, so here's a quick guide to their uses:
1 - novelty pet, dogs are for life not just christmas but pigs can be ditched the moment they are no longer vogue without any ethical ramifications at all!
2 - the tiniest yet most expensive rashers of bacon ever
3 - An entire hog roast you can have to yourself without (as much) stigma for gluttony
4 - An ineffectual replacement for a guard dog, pigs are lazy and in no way as fearsome
Novelty animal breeding angers me for many reasons - it's stupid, it's pointless, it's a waste of time and money, it's a crude form of GM that often breeds in horridly crippling diseases as well as tiny stature or big stupid fucking ears and yet doesn't get nearly as much vilification as the scientific equivalent and in my opinion is a form of bizarre and vicious animal cruelty - take the furry tumour look-a-like train wrecks some celebrities have carried about in handbags for example - not to mention the crime is often compounded by forcing them to wear clothes as well.
So long story short animal breeding for novelty purposes makes you a complete fucking tool.

Strains credulity. [Sep. 27th, 2007|11:57 am]
If you expect you're children's education to be free from bias and political spin you live in a fantasy world quite frankly.
Also nothing encourages the state to cut down on authoritative security measures like terrorist acts - this man is a genius!
In other news, I'm off to see Ross Noble tonight - I use news in a very liberal sense there.

A disappointing lack of eye-gouging. [Sep. 3rd, 2007|10:37 am]
Not only stupid but nonsensical: a guide to how to deal with internet pornography by Christians from GODtube - now it may be a piss take but I wouldn't be surprised if not. Again as is the way the real entertainment value is in the comments section.

More mad linkz OMG!!! [Aug. 28th, 2007|02:09 pm]
[music |Suicide Commando - X.20 remix CD]

Science recreates out-of-body experiences using glove puppets and Pepto-Bismol! Probably, I didn't read the whole thing but my version is probably more entertaining.
Look at this it's great but also a little NSFW. - Anywhere that you can see an octopus tell a woman "O, you read? I am impressed by your literacy!" In an attempt to seduce her is worth checking out.
Hopefully not protection of the mob variety - I'd hate to think of Mrs. Tiggy-winkle being shaken down by heavies.
Yeah advertising is to blame for underage drinking - no one is going after the real culprit... namely Jesus! My junior school kept on banging on about Jesus and his "Miracles" until we all wanted to emulate him by being drunk on water and nailed to planks of wood! Don't ban beer adverts ban the bible - It's not the most fatuous scapegoating ever admittedly but we've been always been a nation of drunks so banning or watersheding (did I just invent a new verb?) adverts isn't really going to have much of an effect.
Hilarious people should bring back tarring and feathering for crimes - especially for young offenders but replace the tar with bricks and the feathers with their broken knees.

Bald man killing people. [Aug. 28th, 2007|10:17 am]
Here's a trailer for the hitman computer game series turned movie that looks a little like XXX but he's wearing a suit and isn't Vin Diesel (I'd say they all look alike but don't wanna be accused of being baldist). The fact that whole premise is that he possesses super-human efficiency and accuracy, and the second game is called silent assassin, so why is he standing in the middle of a room duel-weilding sub-machineguns while not particularly looking like he's putting much effort into aiming? That not withstanding I'm gonna check it out on the off-chance that they include the bit in the third game where he offs a morbidly obese man in a warehouse with a meathook cleverly hidden inside a whole chicken!

Back from my london adventure - seeing A23 AND XOTOX at the slimelight clubnight afterwards. It was amazingly good fun and I've not fully recovered yet as I made it right to the end of the night and didn't get to sleep till I got on my 10am train.
